Tier capabilities
Consumption is serverless and per-operation. Basic v2 introduces SLA but limits multi-region and VNet. Standard v2, GA in 2026, adds VNet integration that previously required Premium. Premium v2 retains multi-region scale-out, availability zones, and the largest cache, and is the only v2 tier with unlimited requests included.
Scale-out is a published per-unit monthly figure on every v2 tier: $150.01 on Basic v2, $500 on Standard v2 and $1,401 on Premium v2. Two gateway lines sit outside the tier price: the self-hosted gateway at $250.01 per month per deployment, free on Developer, and the Premium workspace gateway at $1,400.01 per month per gateway unit plus $100.00 for five workspaces.
Front Door, App Gateway, WAF bundling
Many Azure customers run APIM behind Azure Front Door for global edge plus App Gateway with WAF v2 for L7 protection. The bundled bill is rarely just the APIM line. Plan to add Front Door routing and rules plus WAF policies.
Recent change
The v2 tiers now carry flat published monthly prices with included request quotas rather than the hourly framing used earlier: Basic v2 $150.01 per month (10M requests included, $3 per additional 1M), Standard v2 $700 per month (50M included, $2.50 per additional 1M) and Premium v2 $2,801 per month with unlimited requests included. Scale-out units are $150.01, $500 and $1,401 per month respectively.

Consumption is per-operation with the first 1M free per Azure subscription, then $0.035 per 10,000 API operations ($3.50 per million) at the East US baseline; the rate is regional, from $0.035 in most regions up to $0.059, with $0.042 in Central and South Central US. Classic v1 SKUs remain published: Developer $48.04, Basic $147.17, Standard $686.72 and Premium $2,795.17 per month; Developer is non-production only. Self-hosted gateway is $250.01 per month per gateway deployment (free on Developer). Workspace gateway premium is $1,400.01 per month per gateway unit plus $100.00 for 5 workspaces per month. API Center Standard lists at $698.975 per month and is included at no cost for linked API Management Standard and Premium instances.
